SUBSTANCE ABUSE/ADDICTION

This group is designed to complement your recovery program, particularly if you are regularly attending AA or NA meetings.  This group supports and even encourages AA and NA, but recognizes the limitations of such self-help groups.

The difference between Self-help Groups and Psychotherapy Groups:

Self-help groups, such as AA/NA, usually follow a structured format that discourages what is referred to as “cross-talk” or deep interactive discussions between members during meetings. Although a commitment to such groups is encouraged, members are welcomed even if they do not attend regularly.

Therapy groups are designed to provide a safe place to practice new ways of coping with old behaviors and relationships.  Therapy groups offer professional guidance as well.  Members are encouraged to talk about their intimate feelings and provide feedback to other group members, as appropriate. A therapy group can be an intense emotional experience where members learn more about themselves and how they come across to others.

This group will require a 12-week commitment.  At the end of each 12-week cycle, a new group will begin that will allow the opportunity for new members to join; otherwise, the group will be a CLOSED group.  This means that the original 6-8 members that began the group will remain together through the entire 12 weeks.  Groups will be offered weekly in the evening (60 minutes).

GROUP WILL BE STARTING IN MAY/JUNE.  PLEASE CALL OR E-MAIL ME FOR MORE INFORMATION.
